The second most important roman ruins in Morocco, Lixus, lie close by on the right bank of the river Lucus.

Other leisure activities include:
• Equestrian centre
• Thalassotherapy centres
• Sports centre
• Craft village

Larache has the second most important Roman ruins in the whole of Morocco. Lixus lies 2.5 miles north of the town on a small hill, overlooking the Loukkos estuary. Lixus is close to Larache beach, where a project under King Mohamed IV vision 2010, Port Lixus will be developed. The project is being undertaken by a European company and when complete will transform the area to include all modern amenities.
The medina of Larache was built by the Spanish when they occupied the area in the 17th century. It is very picturesque with its Moorish / Spanish feel and whitewashed houses, with blue doors and windows hidden in every alleyway.
Casbah De La Cigogne, built under the reign of Philip III in the 17th century, is a reminder of the Spanish occupation. Another example of  Spanish influence is the “evening stroll”, from between 5pm-9pm the whole town seems to emerge and complete a couple of circuits of the medina whilst chatting about the days events.
They line the promenade of the Balcon Atlantico and are back in their homes by 10pm. The Portuguese legacy is Kasbah the Qebibat, built in the 16th century it overlooks the Atlantic Ocean.

Take a five minute stroll from the medina, down the steps and alleyways to the sea, where you can experience being rowed over to the nearby beach.
Due to the local fishing port, fresh fish dishes are widely available for as little as a third of UK prices.
Many Moroccans living overseas return to Larache in the summer. During this time you will hear English, Spanish, French & Dutch widely spoken in the town.
